Course Description:
Introduces students to interdisciplinary studio practice, emphasizing critical thinking and creative exploration. With a focus on time-based media, projects may be developed through combinations of different practices, such as photo and text, audio/video, web based and site-specific work. Students are expected to spend at least 4 hours outside of class time to complete course work.

Objectives
The course demands an engagement with art history and cultural history. Research, problem solving, and intellectual participation are emphasized to develop a fundamental understanding of interactive structures and knowledge. Technical workshops include introductions to Photoshop, Web Design and Final Cut Pro. Students are encouraged to expand their technical skills independently as part of your ongoing work in this course.

Compulsory Materials Fee: $40, this fee is centrally collected by the Office for Student Accounts and must be paid in full upon receipt of your bill for tuition. Failure to pay your fees by the deadline specified by Student Accounts automatically results in being denied access to facilities and may create academic consequences, up to and including de-enrolment in the course.

Liability Waiver: In the case of damage, lost or stolen equipment that is the property of the Dept. of Visual Arts, technical staff will determine if the damage is a result of normal wear and tear and if the item is repairable. If it is determined that the damage is the result of abuse, the student will be responsible for the full cost of the repair, or the full cost of replacement if the item is not repairable. Any unpaid damages incurred while students are registered in the program will be charged directly to the student’s account. All students are required to sign a waiver upon using and borrowing tools and equipment in the first class of the course. For further information: contact Janice Carbert (jcarbert@yorku.ca).
